Core Race Interaction

The four core races as well as human Elders can all interact with and attack each other. You can own any combination of HUDs, and maintain any race that those combination of HUDs allows, depending on how you use them. There is always a path to getting from one race or status to another.

In order to drink the metric associated with a given race, you must own the HUD for that race. So, in order to collect Vital Blood, Lumens, Ether, or Ichor, you must own the Thirst, the Rage, the Ascent, and the Torment respectively. If you attack another player with one of these HUDs, you will always collect the metric associated with that HUD. But, the victim may lose a different metric, and this metric will be converted into the metric you are collecting. For example, the Ascent always collects Ether, but your victim might lose humanity or a different metric, depending on what they have. Each HUD takes victim metrics according to the priority listed in the table below. This means that metrics earlier in the list will be taken first if they are above 0. If they are 0, then it will move onto the next item in the list until it finds metrics to take. So, a vampire bite will only draw Vital Blood from a victim if that victim has no other metric above 0 except Vital Blood. Metrics are always converted to their equivalent value in the attacker's metric. That means that 10% humanity is converted into 0.5 Vital, 0.5 Ichor, 5 Lumens, or 5 Ether. Elders by default will own the Virtue HUD and all victim metrics in this case will be converted to Humanity.

HUD Attacker collects Victim metric priority
The Thirst Vital Blood Humanity, Ichor, Ether, Lumens, Vital Blood
The Rage Lumens Humanity, Ether, Ichor, Vital Blood, Lumens
The Ascent Ether Humanity, Lumens, Vital Blood, Ichor, Ether
The Torment Ichor Humanity, Vital Blood, Lumens, Ether, Ichor
The Virtue Humanity Vital Blood, Lumens, Ether, Ichor, Humanity

If you are a hybrid of any two races, you will always be dominant in one of those races, depending on your metric percentage. If you are a Nephilem (Angel / Demon hybrid), then you may be Angel-dominant if your Ether percentage is higher than your Demon percentage, and vice versa. For example, if your Ichor was at 4 Therms, and your Ether was at 30 Auras, you would be Demon-dominant, because your Ichor percentage (4/5, or 80%), would be higher than your ether percentage (30/50, or 60%).

Humans

You can own any combination of HUDs and still remain human. Humans can own souls, but only if they own one of the other core race HUDs(or need become Elder), because you need to be able to perform attacks in order to gain souls. For more information about Humans, see the Human HUD instructions.

It is important to note, however, that the souls held by Humans(except Elder!) will not contribute to a liege or family's status. So if you have a Human who has 12 souls, and they liege to you, those 12 souls will not count for your total, or your family's total. If the Human becomes vampire / lycan / elder / angel / demon they would begin to count.

Humans & Apples

For those that wish to remain human, but assist vampire / lycan / elder / angel / demon Liege, there are apple trees, bulk apples, and cider drinks which will regenerate human blood. If a human eats a single apple, they will gain 5% humanity, which can then be drained by vampire / lycan / elder / angel / demon.

How to Change Races

If you are currently one race and wish to be another, you will need to perform two processes. The first is to drink the Turn Reversing potion appropriate to your race (listed above, Nightsade for Vampire, etc.) so that you can lose whatever race you currently are. Then you will need to fill up to 100% on whatever metric your desired race will be (Ichor for Demons, etc.) in order to transform to the new race.

If you simply want to become a Hybrid of your current race and a new one, you can skip the Turn Reversing potion and just fill up on the metric necessary to turn to the addition race. From that point forward you will suffer both Curses.

One caveat to these processes is if you wish to become Corrupted as a Demon or Consecrated as an Angel, you must reach 100% Shift first, then fill up on the necessary metric to turn. If you are currently a Vampire or Lycan and simply wish to add an Angel or Demon side, you do not need to Shift, and may simply fill up on either Ichor or Ether to turn.

Humans & Apples

For those that wish to remain human, but assist a vampire or lycan Liege, there are apple trees, bulk apples, and cider drinks which will regenerate human blood. If a human eats a single apple, they will gain 5% humanity, which can then be drained by a vampire or lycan.

A Note On Drama & RP

As in any RP environment, there will be conflict. Some common sources of conflict or drama in Bloodlines are:

  • A soul being held 'hostage' for ransom or simply out of spite
  • Family arguments, conflicts, battles
  • Minion defection or 'Family hopping'
  • Disputes over hunting of humans, souls/metrics etc
  • Anger over the sending of attack requests

All of these sources of conflict can range from the 'normal' or expectable drama involved in RP, to the extreme - verbal abuse, griefing, hacking, etc. Due to the difficult nature of proving guilt or innocence in the virtual world, and due to the sheer size of the Bloodlines RP player base, it is not possible for staff to police these types of conflicts. The exception to this is if the conflict occurs on a Bloodlines sim itself, in which case punishment may include warning, banning, or freezing of accounts. All conflict that occurs off the Bloodlines sim is considered out of jurisdiction, and as such, the final authority is Linden Labs. If you feel that at any point a player's RP has crossed the line into harassment, we suggest filing an Abuse Report with Linden Labs.
